The AP Psychology exam is somewhat notable by its duration: it's one of the shortest exams at just at two hours. Section 1 is a multiple-choice section of approximately 100 questions (67% of the score).  Section 2 is the free-response section consisting of two essay questions (33% of the score).  Participation rates are high (151,006 test takers in 2009) as is the five-year growth rate (73%).  Test scores continue to rise with average of 3.22 in 2009, with fraction of test takers gaining a score of 4 or 5 remaining relatively steady in the mid to high 40s. 1

The major topics covered on the exam are  social psychology, treatment of psychological disorders, abnormal psychology, testing, developmental psychology, learning, cognition, sensation & perception, behavioral psychology, research methodology and psychological history. 1
